The term Qi Gong was established as an global term for chinese Daoist energy exercises in the middle of the 20th century.
Before that many Daoist methods existed in china such as Daoyin, Yi Jin Jing and Ba Duan Jin.
These methods usually consist of a set of movements separated from one another by an opening and closing motion.
Ba Duan Jin, the eight brocades, for example, consist of eight such movements.
In Taiji the movements are fluidly connected and not separated.
Another difference is that the movements in Taiji have a martial arts background while the movements in Qi Gong are for health only. Taiji is a complete self-contained system consisting of basic exercises, forms and partner exercises.
